Lecture Assignment for Week 2
starting Monday, July 9, 2007
2007-2008 Residency Year

Welcome to Week 2.

For those of you just starting out in your program, this was certainly a challenging week of 'getting your feet wet'. For those of you continuing in your training, this was time to reflect on how far you have actually come over the past year. It is easy to think 'I will never be able to do that' when watching upper level residents functioning at high levels in challenging situation, but somehow things tend to fall into place and somehow you WILL learn all that stuff! You will soon find yourself being the one that everyone whishes they could keep up with...

One way to get yourself on the right track is write great chart notes. Since your note will be read and reviewed by all who come into contact with that patient's chart, your medical documentation is one of the most important representations of your work. Like it or not, people will make judgments about you and your skill level based on the notes you leave behind. This Week we invite you and your entire program to participate in a Team View Lecture on "Medical Documentation". This lecture will be review for many, but provides everyone on the team with a great reference for how to structure and compose your notes, dictations, etc. It will raise your awareness of the role these notes play in patient care, learning, practice management, and medico legal arenas. Don't underestimate the importance of this part of your day...! Have a great week.
