can transform the way you deliver residency education!
Welcome
to Week 5. If you are a 1st year resident, you
have the first month behind you now and should
be getting the hang of things around your
hospital and/or surgery centers. If you are a
2nd or 3rd year resident you are well on your
way to the experiences that will round out your
residency career in podiatric medicine and
surgery.
The curriculum lectures this week include
Anesthesia Review, Freiberg’s Infraction, and
Neglected Clubfoot. Please select the
appropriate lecture corresponding to your
residency year and follow along. Remember that
the entire library of lectures is always
available to you as a reference. We like to
think we make this process fairly painless and
we hope that you take the maximal advantage of
the resources at PRESENT as a supplement to what
you already receive at your training program.
Have a great week.

In this lecture,
Dr. Aimee Stotz provides a comprehensive review of surgical
anesthesia. It begins with preoperative anesthesia
evaluation and then proceeds to discuss various types of
surgical anesthetics, including inhaled and intravenous
types. Opioids and local anesthetics are also included in
this lecture. Likewise, the pathophysiology, clinical
presentation, and treatment of malignant hyperthermia is
addressed.
Dr. Vito
describes the pathophysiology, the staging of and the
reconstructive surgical repair of Freiberg's Infraction, an
osteochondrosis of the 2nd metatarsal head, in this
beautifully illustrated lecture.
Congenital clubfoot is a complex condition which is even
more challenging when encountered in a neglected or
recurrent state. In this lecture, Dr. Marc Benard of the
Baja Crippled Children Project reviews the overall
parameters for the recognition of the deformity, its
clinical and radiographic appearance and the variables
associated with its non-surgical and surgical management.
