As many of you know, PRESENT Courseware for
Resident Education is growing at a very fast pace. Our 117 lecture on-line
curriculum is now part of the academic structure at over 90% of the nation’s
podiatric residency programs and our website has hosted over 30,000 lecture
viewings. We are very proud to make this new resource available to you and want
to make sure that you know
all the best ways to take advantage of it.

The
117 (and growing) lecture bank is the foundation of the entire program. We have
recently upgraded the platform which runs the lectures and we think you will
notice many improvements. Keep in mind that when viewing a lecture you have
several additional resources available to you such as the actual transcript of
the lecture, references for further research, ability to read a bio of the
author, and the option of sending the author an email question or comment.
Introduced
July 2005, this system provides a structure by which you can view the on-line
lectures in an orderly and progressive nature. The Curriculum is designed for a
2 or 3 year residency program with minimal overlap to emphasize key learning
points. Although we recommend you utilize this as a ‘lesson plan’ for viewing
the lectures, you should remember that ALL of the lectures are available to you
at anytime you wish to view them.
We
publish several weekly columns to help you best utilize PRESENT. Sunday night is
This Week which briefly reviews the
assigned lectures for 1st, 2nd and 3rd year residents as outlined by the
curriculum. Tuesday nights is a new publication entitled
Residency Rap which is a peer driven
column for exchange of resident ideas within you group. Wednesday night is this
column Residency
Insight which is used for helpful hints, discussions, and case presentations.
We also have numerous “Featured Lecture” reviews on the website which can help
you get a quick overview of particular lectures and their authors. Another new
periodic column is the Dermatology Corner which features learning points from
Dr. Bakotic on skin pathology.
This
very successful peer competition is run approximately twice per academic year.
The Rumble facilitates inter-program competition based on challenging clinical
questions which must be answered correctly in a time sensitive scoring
environment. Prizes are awarded to the winning programs and have included iPods,
Digital Cameras, and Plasma Screen TV’s…
Thanks for being part of this and I look
forward to working with you in the coming year!
