Freiberg’s Infraction is a term that we all are very familiar
with from Podiatry School, yet this relatively rare clinical condition is often
misunderstood and misdiagnosed in clinical practice. As a type of
osteochondrosis, Freiberg’s Infraction most often involves the 2nd metatarsal
head, but can be found at any metatarsal phalangeal joint. This brief but
informative lecture by Dr. Vito is based on the Smilie Classification System for
Freiberg’s Infraction and reviews options for management of the condition based
upon the classification level. A thorough review of radiographic presentations
and case studies are discussed. Treatments presented include joint distraction,
arthroplasty, implant arthroplasty, osteotomy with graft placement, and
immobilization.
This lecture is approximately 15 minutes in length and well
worth your time. Dr. Vito proves that it doesn’t always take an hour to teach
and / or review an important clinical topic.
