Help US to Help YOU
To all podiatric residents:
How fortunate you all are to have access to such a wonderful
website to interact with and learn from. Thus far, Dr. Sherman
has amassed a very impressive list of outstanding lecturers,
each possessing years of clinical experience, who are willing to
share their knowledge base and insight with you on various
pertinent clinical topics. I know I speak for Dr.'s Lieberman
and Sherman in extending a heartfelt plea for your input.
We
want to know
what's on your minds
so that we may position
ourselves and this website in assisting you in the most
effective and efficient manner possible. This website can be as
terrific as you want it to be. I know, because I've watched the
growth of and interacted with Dr. Sherman's former website
(Podiatry Online) for years. The information highway he created
for his colleagues was invaluable. All of us learned from one
another to help make us better physicians. We would like to
think we are extremely
accessible and will do everything possible to help you, but we
need your input, your ideas, learn what your feelings and
concerns are regarding the issues you deem most critical at this
stage in your professional careers.
It's ironic, but I never felt as secure as a healthcare
professional as I was when I rotated through my residency at
Kern Hospital from 1981-83. While you are in your program, you
are secure and insulated from the world about you to a certain
degree. Your malpractice is covered, food and housing are
generally available to most residents at a discount, resident
salaries are at an all time high, and you have the ability to be
as bold and aggressive as you want to be in your clinical
philosophy, for the attendings ultimately bear the burden of
responsibility and repurcussions from the ideas and suggestions
you offer for any given clinical situation. That all changes
once you graduate from your residency program when you become
the clinician, the attending. We understand, to a point, what it
must feel like to enter the next phase of your professional
careers, since we've all been there and done that. However,
times are much different now than they were back in the early
and mid 1980's, and so are the hurdles one must clear to achieve
success. As Jerry Maguire put it "help
US to help YOU" succeed!
My own goal as it pertains to this website is to provide as much
accessibility as is required to offer insight and information
that may help position each and every one of you in becoming a
better podiatrist. Likewise, I know each and every resident has
something to offer that will benefit your educators. It's a two
way street, so rev up your think tanks. Please...let us hear
from you...E-mail
us today!!!
Respectfully submitted,

Barry Mullen, DPM
